KC Burn

I’m KC Burn and my favourite werewolf story changes depending on my mood - there are a lot of good ones out there. However…

One Wednesday night several years ago, during a horrible snowstorm, a friend and I went to the movies. We saw Cursed, with Christina Ricci and Joshua Jackson about a werewolf in L.A., and we were the only ones in the theatre. We laughed and laughed. Ahem. I’m not sure if that was the intention of the film, but I found it hilarious. It was a nice, light-hearted horror movie, the acting was good, the effects weren’t awful, and it had a very campy feel to it. Perhaps it was intended to be a spoof, although it certainly wasn’t billed as such. But it hit all my B-movie buttons, and it’s one of my all-time favourite werewolf movies.

Although I like the werewolf as villain, I also enjoy the opposite end of the spectrum with the werewolf as the uber-Alpha hero as is often found in romantic fiction -- for instance, the awesome J.L. Langley’s werewolf series. The inclusion of the tortured werewolf hero in Cursed (although he was more a beta than an alpha) is probably one of the reasons I enjoy the movie so much. It has the best of both worlds.

As for me, MIA Case Files: Wolfsbane is my foray into the werewolf arena, with werewolves as villains. The blurb is below, and the next one in the series (with vampires) is due out shortly.

Werewolves are coming through an open portal and one of them wants Adam Farelli. Agent Lachlan Carmichael can’t let that happen, even if it means stepping out of the closet for the town’s sexiest screw-up.

Oh I haven't seen cursed. I'll have to check that out. Mildly inappropriate humor is just up my street!

Belinda - thanks for having me here, and I apologize for not providing you with a title for my post... I'm such an idiot sometimes!

Barbara - you should see Cursed, I do recommend it, but I refuse to take any responsibility if you hate it ;)

Sounds like I will have to rent Cursed. I'll let you know I find it funny or scary. I love a good werewolf as bad guy story.

I'm not one for horror movies but I guess that I'll have to rent Cursed.

okay, gotta see Cursed now. :)

Your book sounds awesome and congrats on the new release today. :)

Whew. Managed to sneak away to Starbucks for lunch!

Wynter & Chudney: I'd be interested in your takes on the movie... there were scary bits, but mostly I found it funny.

Kristal: Yeah, Wolf is a good movie, although if I'm going Jack & horror, it's gotta be The Shining!

Rebekah: Thanks! I've been so lucky with the covers!

Brandy: Underworld - that's a good one. I always enjoy a vamp/werewolf crossover.

Jennifer: I forgot about Howling! Those were fun horror movies, although I think I only saw the first three. Although, if I'm going for a SERIOUS werewolf movie, I'd have to pick Brotherhood of the Wolf (despite the subtitles)

Jason: Absolutely! I think everyone should see it - but with the above disclaimer... if you hate it, it's not my fault :) And thank you, I love release day!

KC, Les Pacte des Loup (brotherhood of the wolf) is also one of my favorites. Its a great werewolf story, but also features Mark Dacascos, who's a doll, and was choreographed by a friend of mine, the iconic Philip Kwok Choy, who was a major cult Kung Fu star in the early 80s.
Other than that, I loved Wolfen and The Eye II. (a HK ghost movie.)

There's also a great Red Riding Hood adaptation...The Company of Wolves. I loved that film!

LOL Belinda - I was going to mention something about Mark Dacascos because I think he's gorgeous, but thought my reply was too long already! And I've not heard of The Company of Wolves, I'll have to check that out.

Cursed is one of those movies that has escaped my radar. While I like to read about wolves, I'm totally chicken when it comes to scary films. In fact last wolf movie I saw was Teen Wolf.lolol.

oh num 4 of the Howling movies is my fav. If you haven't seen it you really should. Its about a writer who thinks she's going crazy lol

KC Burn said...

Jennifer L: Teen Wolf, eh? That has been a while! Well, you gotta love Michael J Fox!

Thanks, Yadkny! Is it wrong to admit how much I adore the cover? Croco Designs is awesome!

Jennifer M: I'll have to check it out, although... a writer who thinks she's crazy? Hope it doesn't feel too realistic ;)

Love JL Langley as well and waiting for her next werewolf tale. Probably will never see Cursed since I am a fluffy bunny reader and movie watcher. Do not like to be scared or see body parts.

Hi Lindseye! Fluffy bunnies can be pretty scary, too! Ever seen Monty Python and The Holy Grail? "Big, pointy teeth!" :)
